My Legacy
Essay
They say there is a legacy pasted down to one another from generation
to generation by stories, this is one of those legacy stories that I have determined to
tell. My legacy will be about my great Uncle Alfred who was a true hero,
I will never forget the day when I asked my grandma about her brother Alfred.
When I had asked her about him she was a little choked up about it because of Uncle Alfred death. But then again it was war
you do die to serve your country you are a hero if you do that, so it was a really great thing
what Uncle Alfred did. When my grandma was talking about him he seemed like a happy man who was after what he wanted
and who roused up for his country America. I will tell you it was a true treat
to listen about him, this was a man who I would look up to any day.
My Uncle Alfred
was a very humble man who wanted to stand up for America and do what was right. Alfred wanted to be in the military, but Grandpa
Reseller who wanted him not to go in the military. Then there came The Pearl Harbor that frightened everyone, the Arizona ship sunken by Japan who made a surprise attack in Hawaii where the US
ships were. After that attack happened the United States knew they had to go to war so they drafted men to have a war with
Japan in the Philippines. Uncle Alfred was one of those men who were drafted, he was very proud that he was so he could fight
for our country. Grandpa Reseller had to let him go, Alfred had some friends in the military. So before he went to the Philippines
he and his friends made an oath if one of us dies we will go to the family and report it.
When it was the second
day of the War in the Philippines the men where in Japans ground. As the men were walking the Japanese did another surprise
attack on them air planes were shooting at them. As Uncle Alfred was running he got shot by one of the air planes, the bullets
were so big it cut him in half. As he was down one of Alfreds friends held him in his arms and said it would be ok, but then
Uncle Alfred died right in his arms. As a year paste by from the war Alfred friend went to Alfreds family to report that he
died, as they found out he died Grandpa Reseller and Grandma cried and cried.
Yes this is a story that had ended very sad but very noble for what my
Uncle Alfred fighting for America means a lot to me. I never knew the man but I feel as if I have known him just from hearing
of what he did. Uncle Alfred symbolized character and strength; he has kept out family stronger then ever. If it wasnt it
for him I wouldnt realized how blessed we are as a nation to have are battles won because of the men who risk their lives
for us. There is no greater love and humanity in this, from what I have heard that Uncle Alfred was a lot like his father
Grandpa Reseller who came from Russia to America. The thing that I really admired about my Uncle was that he was a man who
had the bible always right next to his bed, where he prayed every night.
Now his father was determined to have opportunity and have life in America, that was a wise decision for him to make.
There was true wisdom and determination of what he did and that is still the key to our family of why we are so strong and
not vulnerable.
